taglines

The tagline - that bit at the top of the page under the “Valley of the Trolley Dollies” title is a nice little way of putting down something that reflects how you’re feeling - how the site is heading - at a particular time.

This year, I’ve kept notes of the Taglines I’ve used. Let’s see what they tell me about the year almost gone…

Early January:

“Every Morning when we wake/ We make up for that piece of Cake”

Diana Ross: “Work that body”. Easy, really: We’re on a fitness kick.

Mid January:

“Partially consumed by poodles”

A partial paraphrasing of “Drowsy Chaperone”. Something to do with discovering that it’s coming to London and (more likely) wanting to enjoy the ludicrousness of it all in the middle of the darkness month.

Feb 6th: You can’t buck a nun Ethel Merman Merman on losing Best Actress Tony Award to Mary Martin (Martin won for The Sound of Music).

Feb 12th : Where women glow and men plunder From ‘Down Under’ by men at work, as we head off, down under

On the cruise: “DO you feel Like I feel?” By Saint Belinda

3/21 “Did I miss anything?” my post cruise query.

late March : “When you’re there, there’s no there there. (With thanks to Gertrude Stein)” Ms S on Orange County. I thought it applicable to the Valley.

04/12 The descending blue - a quote from ‘Spring’ by Gerard Manly Hopkins

6/15 Welcome to my Web Shite - obvious, really.

8/3 …so much for bleached nostalgia - from ‘Little Dysfunk You’ by The Ark.

9/5 “it’s not the side effects of the cocaine”Bowie. ‘Stationtostation’ New beginnings. Most importantly, the next lines “It’s too late too hateful,” and, somewhere in the ad-libs “I’m thinking that it must be love”. Which it is. Everything in life is love. Why else live?

9/10 “somebody up there … likes me” Bowie again. From the Young Americans album.

9/21 “Let Grief be a Falling Leaf at the Dawning of the Day” from raglan road by Patrick Kavanagh. In honour of autumn.

12/10 “A Stain on the Silence” - Beckett on why he writes (”to leave a …”)

12/21 ho ho ho - Christmas, innit?
