Gap appear to have managed the modern miracle of actually turning the shops into Black and White TV (a la Pleasantville). Not a hint of the spectrum above grey is on display. Since the competition have already nabbed Mrs Richie, Mrs Skanky-Crackho and Lady Nipinn-Tuckk, the Duchess of Gastricbypassia the Californian’s appear to have nabbed (from beyond the grave) the only celebrity designer worth having: Henry “Any colour so long as it’s black” Ford.

The new job looms. After over a decade in business casual, the new position at Feng Shui Bank requires me to step, once agin, into buisness formal wear.

I don’t mind; I actually look good in a suit, and think the work at the gym makes me feel good in a suit too, so all in all, I’m quite looking forward to the change.

Which brings me to TM Lewins. After a conversation with him, where he told me to abandon my original plans of having an all-new Ralph and Brooks Bros wardrobe (”Too American, darling. And FengShui is a very Olde Englishe Banke. You need to blend in, very trad Eng. The Madison Avenue look can wait a few years”), I’m looking for something a little more English.
