What can I say about this one? Simply beautiful. My favourite band. My favourite film. One of my favourite songs. I still can’t watch the final scenes of Beautiful Thing without tearing up; so much could go wrong for the boys, but I know it doesn’t. it’s my Cinderella. My Happy Ending. A real fairy story, and if Jonathon Harvey never wrote another word, it wouldn’t matter.
That he went on to do “Rupert St Lonely Hearts Club” “Hushabye Mountain” and “Gimme Gimme Gimme,” not to mention “Closer to Heaven” proves that, even though they all have their own special flaws, he’s a huge talent.
Which means that I, of course, hate him with a passion usually reserved for Dictators and Mass Murderers.
