Four years ago, my brother and his then girlfriend were adopted by a ball of soft fluffy black fur. The fully grown adult cat wasn’t in too good a state, and many people would have taken one look, given him up for a lost cause and let it go on its way.

I had a friend once. The first time I ever saw him, he was interviewing for a job at the Bank I work at.

“What’s the last book you read?” I asked, figuring that if a monkey like me could do the job, intelligence was not the deciding factor; personality was. Would I want to spend twelve hours a day in his company?

“Tintin and the Picarros,” he answered, and the job was his.
