Valley of the Trolley Dollies

“I get so nervous,” she [said, tracing] her anxiety back to her upbringing as a biracial child in South Carolina, rejected by both blacks and whites: “I am always afraid of being rejected. You never get away from it. I am very glad the public has made me who I am because I can feel I’m worthwhile when I hear the applause and I’m still wanted.” 

If I could choose to borrow the life of one woman on earth, this one would be a very strong contender.

Talent. More Balls than almost anyone I can think of. Guts. Glamour. And such very interesting times she’s seen…
