weekend

Gotta be brief as am busy busy today…
Highlights:

Thursday’s trip to ‘The History Boys‘ - a truly wonderful, very Alan Bennett film, with great writing, and wonderful perfomances. My dad and I loved it.

Friday’s meeting of the (reduced) BTS in the salubrious surrounding of the Princess Louise public house in Holborn. Like drinking inside a music box. One with a large amount of pretty young eye candy, and a vast Victorian pissoir downstairs that simply has to be seen to be believed. Like a tardis crossed with a mausoleum, it was…

Saturday’s hallowe’en / Birthday Party for Bob’s Larry. 8 meaux’s in drag; two girls in looks of permanent bemusement; Lashings and lashings of alcoholic beverages; singstar ’80’s* and Buzz on the ps2*; a trip (in heels and full drag) to the Quebec for a drink and a boogie (and a great deal of fending off of wandering hands - I swear I am sooo going cruising next time in a dress. Never before have I been the recipient of so much interest); and a walk back fending off wolf-whistling cabbies. A 4am bedtime was a small price to pay for such a fantastic night. Pics will be posted soon as.

*how long before they do a musical theatre version of either of these games? I mean, they’re quite clearly aimed at a certain ‘target’ audience already, so surely a singstar that lets you shriek along to ‘Not while I’m around’ in a key of your own making whilst scoring ‘golden notes’ all over the shop is a done deal.

friday fiction #2

What’s it all about? Read here.

edit: What a Plank!!! I wrote this as an 800 word piece and edited it down to 500 so it would fit the Friday 500 brief. And now I discover that the (self-set) brief was a Friday 400. D’oh! Ah well, it may be a little over, but it’s still exactly 500 words (excluding the title) and a lot of fun.

five things

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

So Bob got tagged with this meme by skintwriter, who got it from Sharon. The idea is to list five things that people might not generally know about you. Doesn’t have to be anything dramatic, but should be truthful. Feel free to play along
PLEASE LEAVE THE FOLLOWING IN ALL ‘PEOPLE COLLECTION’ POSTS

Remember that it isn’t always the sensational stuff that writers are looking for, it can just as easily be something that you take for granted like having raised twins or knowing how to grow beetroot. Mind you, if you know how to fly a helicopter or have worked as a film extra, do feel free to let the rest of us know about it

Here goes…

  1. As a schoolkid I worked at MacDonalds. I was a size 28″ waist, but all they had left were 34″ brown nylon uniform trousers, so I wore them with a belt. I did so well in my first three weeks that the manager wanted me to apply for their management training scheme when I left school. Having worked like a dog for four weeks, I got my first paycheck. I quit the next day.
  2. I have bitten my nails for as long as I can remember. I hate it, and finally stopped earlier this year. I bit them all again this week, but know I can stop and have them grow again.
  3. I never wanted to work in finance. I frequently hate it. But the money is too good, and I’m lazy like an old French Whore (”je suis whore”).
  4. My favourite dvd’s in the whole wide world are films with explosions, screams, bloodshed and/or Arnie/Sly/Bruce/Wesley. If I want to see Bergman or Goddard movies, vhs is surely good enough. I mean, how high def do you need for existential angst?
  5. I hate change. I hate choice. I hate the fear that any decision I make might turn out to be the wrong one. But I try not to allow myself to become paralyzed by the fear.
  6. A bonus 6th: My psychiatrist says I’m mildly paranoiac. Well, she doesn’t say that, but i know she’s thinking it. 8)
